Frequently Asked Questions
End of Support for Windows 7 + Upgrading to Windows 10

            1. What does end of support mean for Windows 7?
After January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security or software updates or support for PCs running Windows 7. To avoid security risks and viruses, Microsoft recommends you upgrade to Windows 10.
            2. Can I continue to work on Windows 7?
You can continue to use Windows 7, but once support ends in January 2020, your PC will become more vulnerable to security risks. Windows will operate, but you will stop receiving security and feature updates.

            1. Can I upgrade my existing hardware to Windows 10?
While it’s possible to upgrade older computers to Windows 10, the process is time consuming, costly and disruptive, especially over larger fleets. Also, obsolete hardware wasn’t designed for the Windows 10 experience, which includes touchscreen support, the Cortana personal assistance and the Edge browser. A better option is moving into the future with brand new devices pre-loaded with Windows 10. New devices include manufacturer warranties. They will deliver a performance boost. And your staff will love you.
            2. What makes Windows 10 different?
If you thought Windows 7 was good, you’re going to love Windows 10. It’s Microsoft’s most secure, best-performing operating system yet. Most importantly, Windows 10 is easy to use for those familiar with Windows 7 – and in fact, most users find it intuitively better. With built in Windows Defender antivirus and firewall, Windows 10 is designed for the cloud. Modern, fast and beautiful.

  • What if I’m not ready and need more time to upgrade?
For users of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise, you can purchase extended security updates through January 2023. For an in-depth FAQ about Windows 7 Extended Security Updates, please download the Microsoft end of support FAQ. Contact your Microsoft partner or account team to learn more.

  • I’ve heard it’s possible to lease my way to Windows 10 instead, what are my options?
New computers aren’t cheap, particularly when it’s a fleet upgrade. Just ten machines require the commitment of $30,000, a significant capital commitment for any business. That’s why Flexi Commercial has teamed up with major technology partners such as HP, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo and Microsoft Surface to bring users exclusive lease offers on Windows 10 devices.

    • What are the benefits of leasing vs buying?
Leasing is a great alternative to help business owners free up cash flow to focus on business growth instead. As an operational expense, a lease is tax-deductible and doesn’t require putting rapidly depreciating assets on the balance sheet.

    • Is it cheaper to lease or buy?
It depends; some of Flexi Commercial’s competitive lease bundle deals work out more cost-effective to rent. For example, on certain deals you could be saving up to $2K+ for five units, or $28K for 50 units. Best of all, over 36 months, it works out cheaper to lease your equipment than to buy it outright.

  • Can I get a free upgrade to Windows 10?
Microsoft 365 Business comes with a free upgrade for users with a Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 Pro license on their device. By purchasing Microsoft 365 Business, users can upgrade all of their old Windows Pro licensed devices at no additional cost.

Can I get support after the Extended Support date, without purchasing Extended Security Updates?
For technical support, customers must purchase Extended Security Updates and have an active support plan in place to get technical support on a product that has moved beyond the Extended Support date. For security updates only, customers can receive Extended Security Updates on certain products. Please contact Microsoft to receive support. Alternatively, instead of paying for extended support, we can help you upgrade in time, the cash flow friendly way.

  • What if I’m already on Windows 10 on my older device?
Microsoft recommends the best way to experience Windows 10 is on a new device. Flexi Commercial’s exclusive deals mean you can get brand new computers for even better performance, the cash flow friendly way.
